PT-141 (Bremelanotide) is a synthetic analog of alpha-MSH that acts on melanocortin receptors (MC3R, MC4R), which regulate sexual arousal. Unlike vascular-acting drugs, it works directly on the central nervous system, increasing desire. It is primarily used in the treatment of sexual dysfunctions — in 2019, the FDA approved it as Vyleesi for the therapy of HSDD in women. It is administered subcutaneously. The most common side effects include nausea, headache, flushing, and increased blood pressure.
